Hi everyone, i just wanted to say a little bit about our rural placement...
i am on mine at the moment and really enjoying it. I am finding that the patient load is a mixture, and even though its not a specialist area i am enjoying practicing a range of treatments - from womens health to cardio, neuro and musculo. i think that working in the country as a physio would be very rewarding, and as long as you have a good support network with other physios, your skills in all areas are maintained.
Occasionally it would be quite challenging as you have nobody to gain a second opinion from, but it would definately make you attend as many continuing ed sessions as possible and keep up to date with the latest treatments available.
i hope everyone else has enjoyed their country placements also, and has found the mixture of patients great practice also!

Would just like to state my agreement with your feelings. I also really enjoyed my rural prac, mainly through the varied caseload, and responsibilitie I was given. I felt more like I was actually contributing and still learned heaps
thats great guys! Im really looking forward to my rural prac and not just for the varied caseload and being allowed to have responsibility as a student - the people, atmosphere and locations are often much more enticing than the caseload. I think its great we get to do a placement in the country (ok maybe with the exception of joondallup...) and hope that the opportunity allows people who havent had this experience before physio to consider it after we graduate - there is a big demand for physios in many rural areas at the moment so you can really make a difference. And remmeber rural doesnt have to be remote!
hey stace
i think that going counrty would be a great option- especially if you have family/friends ect there! i think that it would also be really importand to have a list of contact in each of the different areas to call if you are unsure wat to do! i think most physios would be more than happy to answer a questions or two!
