Hi everyone
I just wanted to talk a little bit about Neuro placements and back pain. I don’t know about any one else but I am finding that no matter how hard I try to protect my back and get my supervisors to help me I still get a sore back at the end of the day. I try my hardest to always bend my knees and use my body weight and contract my TA’s. Especially when we are transferring people that are 3 times my body weight. I would really just love to use the hoist for all my patients! I just don’t know wether it is something that I have to accept! Any thoughts????

Hey Jess, I've had similar problems this year. I have a few posture issues from a while back but I got a quite acute incidence of spasm on my musculo clinic. Being on neuro now, quite labour intensive, I have been a bit sore (not to mention completely exhausted) by the end of the day/week. I think with neuro, when you're doing everything you can personally do it's important to ask for assistance. We need rests just like our patients. Most importantly if your not comfortable with a task, or load you're having to move, don't do it. You have a right to work in a safe environment, and it will really affect you in the long run. I think this is something we should all be aware of and try to really make good habits early in our careers.
